This cycling tour combines the Danube metropolis Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest with a diverse river landscape, as well as numerous castles and palaces, which are proudly enthroned next to the Danube.

Travel days

1. Day: arrival - Vienna

Individual arrival to the waltz metropolis. End the evening in a pleasant way with a small stroll through the city.

2. Day: Vienna - region Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (approx. 42 km)

The National Park Donau-Auen begins directly in front of the gates of Vienna. Passing the castles Orth and Eckartsau you will soon arrive in the spa city Bad Deutsch-Altenburg/surroundings.

3. Day: region Bad Deutsch-Altenburg - Bratislava (approx. 26 km)

The blue ribbon of the Danube current winds its way embedded between the Hainburger Mountains and the small Carpathians. Your daily destination is the Slovakian capital Bratislava with its enchanting old city and castle.

4. Day: Bratislava - Györ (approx. 50 km + train ride)

In the midst of untouched landscape on the Schütt Island, one can find a labyrinth on the tributaries of the Danube. After a short train ride from Mosonmagyarovar (incl.) you will then reach Györ.

5. Day: Györ - Komarno region (approx. 57 km)

Babolna is world famous for the breeding of Arabian horses. Travelling through soft hilly agricultural area you then cycle back to the Danube in the divided city Komarom. 

6. Day: Komarno region - Danube Bend region (approx. 52 km)

Travelling along the Slovakian Danube river bank you cycle past Römerkastell of Kelemantia into the Bishop- and royal city Esztergom.

7. Day: Danube Bend region - Budapest (approx. 62 km + ship ride)

Today you can experience the artist city Szentendre with its island off the coast. Enjoy a unique view of the most famous sights to see during a ship ride from Szentendre to Budapest (incl.).

8. Day: Budapest - Departure

Individual departure or extension.


There are cycle paths in good condition on the Austrian section, in Hungary you ride partly on country roads and agricultural paths. More traffic is to be expected at city entrances and exits. The route is flat to slightly hilly with only a few ascents.

  • Parking and arrival information
    Airport: Vienna (VIE), then by bus (ÖBB Postbus, Vienna Airport Lines) to the arrival hotel (costs approx. € 8,00)
    Railway station: Vienna, from here by public transport (U1) in about 20 minutes to the arrival hotels
    Parking: At Kat. A, limited number of parking spaces at the arrival hotel (costs approx. € 80,00 per week), unguarded, locked, reservation not possible; payable on-site
    Alternatively, public parking space in the outdoor area, directly behind the shopping center Donauzentrum, unguarded, for free, from here with the U1 to the arrival hotels
    Park & Ride: Unguarded parking garage at subway station Leopoldau
