Travel days

1. Day: arrival - Tübingen

Individual arrival to the swabian university city Tübingen. Be enchanted by the picturesque old city and the steep crooked alleys.

2. Day: Tübingen - Esslingen (approx. 54 km)

You travel through the charming landscape down the Neckar river. Numerous bathing lakes invite you for a cool refreshment, before you arrive in the picturesque town Nürtingen. You will reach Esslingen via Plochingen, where you can admire the Regenturm tower by Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

3. Day: Esslingen - Marbach/Freiberg (approx. 39 - 44 km)

Today, your cycling tour leads you into the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart. Passing by the baroque city Ludwigsburg, you will arrive at Marbach, the birthplace of the famous poet Friedrich Schiller. A visit to his birth house (incl.) gives you an impression of the way how life was back then.

4. Day: Marbach/Freiberg - Heilbronn (approx. 40 - 46 km)

You cycle over fields and pastures to Besigheim and continue to travel close to the riverbank, into the wine village Lauffen. Travelling through vineyards, you will then reach the Käthchen city Heilbronn. Use the remaining time for a stroll through the old city and visit the numerous monuments, for example the gothic Kilians church or the city hall which is one of the loveliest in Germany.

5. Day: Heilbronn - Eberbach (approx. 56 km)

You follow the street "Burgenstraße" and arrive in Neckarsulm, where the German bicycle museum is located. Passing by lush wine terraces and wooded mountain ridges, you will pass the Hornberg castle and the Zwingenberg palace and will then reach the old staufer city Eberbach.

6. Day: Eberbach - Heidelberg (approx. 34 km)

Between Eberbach and Heidelberg, the Neckar now winds its way through the mountain ranges of the Oden forest. You will reach Hirschhorn, which is dominated by its knight’s castle. You continue to cycle to the four-castle-town Neckarsteinach. In Neckargemünd, you cross the river again and will then arrive in the university city Heidelberg.

7. Day: Heidelberg - departure

Individual departure from Heidelberg.

The route does not always run in close vicinity of the river, thus slight ascents cannot be avoided. The well signed route leads on cycle paths and agricultural roads, which are not always paved, and also partly on fairly quiet country roads. Short sections partly must be travelled on busier roads – especially when passing through towns

Total length: approx. 229 kilometres

level of difficulty: 1 - 2
