1. Day: Potsdam
Independent arrival in Potsdam, starting point of the tour. Use the rest of the day to explore the old Prussian imperial city and see the Dutch Quarter, Sanssouci Castle or Peacock Island.
2. Day: Potsdam - Oranienburg, approx. 57/76 km
You start the trip either with the first bike tour or a boat-ride to Sacrow (not included in price of trip) past Glienicker Bridge, famous for spectacular spy swaps in past times, and the New Garden. If you choose not to take the boat your bike tour will be 19 km longer. The Havel Bike Trail takes you through the forested country around Großer Wannsee Lake. Visit the old town centre in Spandau before you reach today’s destination Oranienburg with its lovingly renovated castle and the pretty park.
3. Day: Oranienburg - Werbellinsee, approx. 52 km
Good bike trails take you through the Schorfheide, one of Germany’s largest forests. You cycle along the Oder-Havel-Canal to Liebenwalde, continue to Zerpenschleuse beside the Langer Trödel and to Marienwerder alongside Finow Canal and finally reach your hotel near Lake Werbellin. Experience mostly untouched nature in this thinly settled area.
4. Day: Werbellinsee - Hohenwutzen, approx. 63 km
By the clear waters of Lake Werbellin you bike to Joachimstal, where you should make sure you see the Norwegian style railway station built by Emperor Wilhelm II. Enjoy the amazing view of the biosphere reserve Schorfheide-Chorin from the viewpoint. You continue along Lake Grimnitz and reach Chorin. A side trip to the old Cistercian Convent is well worth the effort. You cross Mönchsheide and pass Europe’s largest boat lift in Niederfinow before arriving in Bad Freienwalde, where you spend the night.
5. Day: Hohenwutzen - Buckow, approx. 56 km
Today you travel through different landscapes: A newly built bike trail takes you through the Oderbruch, an area that was dried out and systematically settled, and to the River Oder. From here you follow the Oder Neiße Bike Trail on to Güstebieser Loose. The area near the Polish Border is thinly settled but charming. Don’t miss the Brecht Weigel House by Lake Schermützel in Buckow, today’s destination.
6. Day: Buckow - Müggelsee, approx. 51 km
You leave the treasure of “Märkisch” Switzerland and cycle on to Waldsieversdorf and Garzin-Garzau, where Germany’s largest field stone pyramid awaits. You pass the Museum’s Park in Rüdersdorf and continue through lovely forest and lakes country to your hotel directly beside Müggelsee Lake.
7. Day: Müggelsee - Potsdam, approx. 58 km
You start out through the forest to Müggel Tower, from the top of which you have a lovely “green” view of the surroundings. A ferry (not included in price of trip) takes you from Wendenschloss across the Dahme to Grünau, from where you follow the Berlin Wall Trail to Babelsberg. Past the famous film studios you return to Potsdam.
