The Pit Stop Tour is named for the numerous wayside restaurants and guesthouses that beckon with fresh, regional food and cosy accommodation. Get a feel for countryside life and the many cultural sights through the Oldenburger Münsterland. You travel through marsh country to Lake Dümmer, the second largest inland lake in Lower Saxony, and bike through extensive meadows, fields and orchards.

Itinerary
1. Day: Essen (Oldenburg)
Independent arrival in Essen (Oldenburg). The city by the river Hase has kept its small town feel. One of the main attractions is the well cared for Essen Town Hall. Also visit the “Villa Meyer”.
2. Day: Essen (Oldenburg) - Damme, approx. 45 km
Today’s tour takes you through the peaceful Hase Valley, which boasts over 600 traditional gable farms, as well as truss buildings and orchards. You continue to Damme, where you can learn about traditional carneval celebrations in the city museum.
3. Day: Damme - Vechta, approx. 49 km
The route takes you to Dümmer Lake, the second largest inland lake of Lower Saxony. You continue on the “Picker Trail”, an old medieval trading route and pass Lohner Moor before reaching Vechta, where you spend the night. Visit the museum in the “Zeughaus”!
4. Day: Vechta - Cloppenburg, approx. 49 km
Today you make your way to Goldenstedt. In Visbek you should stop at the legendary Lourdes Grotto from 1906. Destination of the day is Cloppenburg. Don’t miss one of Germany’s oldest open-air museums, the “Cloppenburg Museum Village”. It shows over 50 original buildings from the 16th -20th centuries.
5. Day: Cloppenburg - Barßel, approx. 54 km
Shortly after leaving Cloppenburg you reach the recreation area of the Thülsfelder Barrage. From the only barrage in North Western Germany you continue to Friesoythe, a former Hanseatic League town, and finally to Barßel, where you spend the night.
6. Day: Barßel - Lindern, approx. 56 km
At the Elisabethfehn Canal you have the first opportunity for a pit stop! You continue through the Saterland region to Scharrel, where a visit to the “Holländer Galerie Wind Mill” is recommended. Cycling through moor and forest country you reach today’s destination Lindern.
7. Day: Lindern - Essen (Oldenburg), approx. 53 km
On your last day you bike through the Hase Valley once again and reach Löningen. Visit the catholic church of St. Vitus, symbol of the town and known as Germany’s largest aisleless church without pillars.
