1. Day: Constance
Independent arrival in the university town Constance. After receiving your rental bike you have time to explore town. Enjoy the almost Mediterranean climate and stroll through narrow alley of down town or a cappuccino in one of the many cafes. Have dinner in one of the excellent restaurants or go for a beer in a lively bar. You spend the night in Constance.
2. Day: Constance – Stein am Rhein/ Surroundings, approx. 29 km
In the morning you cycle through picturesque fishing villages. In Ermatingen you have the opportunity to visit the Vinorama museum. Once you reach Stein am Rhein, spend a few minutes on the Rhein Bridge and take in the view. Castle Hohenklingen sits above town. The silhouette is still like the former structure between 1200 and 1422 after Christus. The restaurant, which is accommodated in the castle is easily accessed on foot via a romantic trail. The Lindwurm Museum is also worth a visit. It’s oldest parts are from 1279 and you will learn a lot about the 19th century society and agriculture. You spend the night in Stein am Rhein or surroundings.
3. Day: Stein am Rhein/ Surroundings – Radolfzell/ Bodman-Ludwigshafen, approx. 24 - 39 km
From Stein am Rhein you continue Höri, a peninsula of Untersee Lake. It is home to the municipalities of Öhningen, Gaienhofen and Moos. In Gaienhofen town centre you will find the Herman-Hesse-House and the Höri museum. Herman Hesse was the first poet to settle down on Höri. From here you travel to Radolfzell and Möggingen on the shores of Lake Mindel, with its romantic water castle. There are three alternative routes to Möggingen and further to Bodman, choose depending on how tired you are. Bodman is a nice town on the southwestern end of Lake Überlinger and has a public park that is very much worth visiting. You spend the night in Radolfzell or Bodman-Ludwigshafen.
4. Day: Radolfzell/ Bodman-Ludwigshafen – Uhldingen/ Meersburg, approx. 19 – 39 km
The way leady from Radolfzell to Bodman-Ludwigshafen, where you will continue along the shore to Sipplingen to Überlingen. The St. Nikolaus Minster is worth a stop; its four-story altar by Jörg Zürn is Germany’s most popular carved altar. Stroll along the idyllic lakeside promenade or relax in the Lake Constance Thermal Springs. You pass Birnau Convent and continue along the “Prälatenweg” to Monkey Mountain, home of 200 Barbary Macaques, and on to the old Cistercian convent in Salem with its famous Minster. Also you can cycle along the lake pass Seefelden and follow the low Lake Constance bike path. You spend the night in Uhldingen or Meersburg.
5. Day: Uhldingen/ Meersburg – Constance, approx. 5 -10 km
Don’t miss the Stone- and Bronze Age crannogs in Unteruhlding. The reconstructions and the guided tours give you a vivid impression of the life and times of our prehistoric ancestors. You continue to Meersburg, one of the most charming towns on Lake Constance. Many medieval truss buildings are well preserved. As a final highlight of the trip we recommend visiting Flower Island Mainau. Don’t forget stopping by the rare tree garden and the butterfly house. Independent return journey.
