Lake Constance connects Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the surrounding areas are home to an interesting mix of peoples and cultural traditions. The tour starts near the Swiss border in Constance and continues to Meersburg along the Untersee and the Überlinger See. From here you cycle through extensive vineyards and orchards to Friedrichshafen, also referred Zeppelin City. Past Bregenz, home to a well known festival, and through the Rhine delta you make your way back to Constance along the Swiss shore of the lake.

1. Day: Constance
Individual arrival in Constance. You receive your rental bike and have time to get to know the city, visit Flower Island Mainau or the convent on Reichenau Island. You spend the night in Constance.
2. Day: Constance – Stein am Rhein/ Surroundings, approx. 30 km
You cycle along the Untersee Lake and through picturesque villages to Stein am Rhein, a town with a long and interesting history. It is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Switzerland and boasts fresco-covered buildings with typical, steep gables and ancient city gates. If you are not tired enough yet, you can go on a 26 km side trip to Schaffhausen, which is famous for the Rhine Falls, Europe’s mightiest waterfall. You spend the night in Stein am Rhein or surroundings.
3. Day: Stein am Rhein/ Surroundings – Radolfzell/Bodman-Ludwigshafen, approx. 25 – 40 km
From Stein am Rhein you continue across the unmarked border to Öhningen and across the peninsula Höri to Radolfzell, where the Radolfzell Basilica, an impressive late gothic structure with three main naves, awaits. Another highlight is the peninsula Mettnau, one of the largest nature reserves around Lake Constance. You spend the night in Radolfzell or nearby Bodman-Ludwigshafen.
4. Day: Radolfzell/Bodman-Ludwigshafen – Überlinger See (Überlingen, Uhldingen or Meersburg), approx. 20 – 40 km
Today you bike via Sipplingen to the former free imperial city of Überlingen and its beautiful lakeside promenade. You pass Birnau Convent and reach Uhldingen, which is famous for its crannogs. A visit to the Cistercian Convent in Salem is a worthwhile side trip. You spend the night in Überlingen, Uhldingen or Meersburg.
5. Day: Überlinger See (Überlingen, Uhldingen or Meersburg) – Friedrichshafen/ Surroundings, approx. 20 – 40 km
You first destination of the day is the fishing and winemaking village of Hagnau. The Lake Constance Bike Trail leads you after the Castle Kirchberg and Immenstaad to the Zeppelin City Friedrichshafen. You should visit the zeppelin museum! You spend the night in Friedrichshafen or surroundings.
6. Day: Friedrichshafen/Surroundings – Lindau/ Bregenz/Höchst/Buriet, approx. 20 - 51 km
You cycle along the shore, via Eriskirch, Langenargen and Kressbronn to Nonnenhorn with its famous “Weintorkel”, and old winepress. You pass Wasserburg and arrive in the Bavarian town Lindau, cycle to Bregenz, the capital of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, and to Höchst or Buriet in Switzerland. Parts of the James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace” were filmed at the Bregenz “Seebühne” and festival house. You have the alternative option of taking a side trip from Eriskirch through the hinterland to the baroque castle of Duke Montfort in Tettnang, before returning to Lake Constance in Kressbronn.
7. Day: Lindau/ Bregenz/ Höchst/Buriet – Rorschach/Horn/Arbon/Egnach, approx. 10 - 49 km
You cross the Rhine Delta Nature Reserve and reach the old harbour town of Rorschach, where you can visit one of Switzerland’s most beautiful corn houses. We recommend taking a gondola to Heiden in Appenzell or make a trip per bike via Steinach to St Gallen with its world famous library. Continuing along Lake Constance you reach historical Arbon, which was part of Constance Diocese for half a millennium, and Egnach.
8. Day: Rorschach/Horn/Arbon/Egnach – Constance, approx. 27–39 km
Through the canton of Thurgau with its beautiful, small villages you cycle to Romanshorn, a former fishing village, which developed into a larger town over time. You take the Lake Constance Bike Trail back to Constance. Individual departure or continued stay.
