Neckar Bike Trail, Part 2

Marbach - Heidelberg
The Neckar Bike Trail is one of the most varied and interesting bike trails. The “River of Poets” springs from damp and cool Schwenninger Moos and begins to make its way past the mighty mountains of the Swabian Alps and the Black Forest. In increasingly large loops, where castles often overlook the river, the Neckar continues to Nürtingen and the state capital of Stuttgart. Having passed the baroque town Ludwigsburg, the river follows a winding path through the vineyards of Württemberg. On your way to Heilbronn you pass lovely small cities like Besigheim, Lauffen and the Schiller and wine making town of Marbach. Beyond Bad Wimpfen the Neckar Valley becomes narrower once again and makes its way through the wild Odenwald in impressive loops. You pass several well-known castles like Hornberg, Zwingenberg and Hirschhorn on the way to the famous university town of Heidelberg with its many sights.
