Sörmland Tour
Katrineholm round trip
Extensive forests, open meadows and fields and hundreds of sparkling lakes define the countryside in the heart of Sweden. The thinly settled Sörmland region with its many lakes is perfect to relax in a peaceful environment, far from hectic everyday routines. Often you cycle for hours without meeting anyone. Red wooden buildings are typical of the region and remind one of the stories of Astrid Lindgren.

1. Day: Katrineholm
Independent arrival by car or train to Katrineholm. Flights to Stockholm Skavsta airport in Nyköping are often good value. You spend the night in a lovely old mansion by the water on the outskirts of Katrineholm. Experience the lakes, forests and beautiful landscapes around Katrineholm.
2. Day: Katrineholm - Julita, approx. 40 km
At 9 am you receive your bikes and talk over the route in your hotel. The first tour takes you past Lake Näsnaren on idyllic Sörmland country roads. You bike around Lake Öljaren and reach Julita, where you spend the night. Visit the beachside open-air museum “Julita”. Your hotel is an 18th century noble’s mansion. Each room has its own particular style and charm. Bathrooms are in the hall. Go for an evening stroll through the castle parks or the museum grounds.
3. Day: Julita Eskilstuna, approx. 52 km
Today you cycle through deep forests with small, light clearings near Lake Näshultasjön, which is surrounded by red farms and holiday homes. You spend the night in Eskilstuna in an old factory building with a tractor museum that was remodelled into a modern hotel.
4. Day: Eskilstuna - Strängnäs, approx. 55 km
Before crossing Fogdön Peninsula you travel to Strängnäs on narrow roads past numerous fields and historical sites. The cathedral in Strängnäs is visible from afar and the many small boutiques in the centre of town invite a visit.
5. Day: Strängnäs - Mariefred, approx. 24 km
Today’s tour is quite short. Gravel roads take you through unspoilt countryside towards Marieferd, where Kurt Tucholsky spent the last years of his life. You have plenty of time to visit Castle Gripsholm and see the pretty wooden buildings in the centre of town.
6. Day: Mariefred - Malmköping, approx. 51 km
Today you cycle through one of the most attractive regions that you will encounter on this trip: a slightly hilly nature reserve. You spend the night in an historical building in Malmköping.
7. Day: Malmköping - Katrineholm, approx. 65 km
The last tour of the trip takes you across Hälle-forsnäs and Mellösa, past Harpsund and to Katrineholm, where you spend another night in the first hotel of the tour. You return your rental bikes in the hotel.
8. Day: Independent return journey
